Famous Beaches in Raigad District

  • Alibag beach :

    This is the main beach. A very flat stretch makes for a long walk. It is reasonably clean and has thin crowds during the week. The sand has a hard texture and is a shade of black. It is not easy to create sand castles. The tide rolls in from all sides: You may have to wade through water on the way back.

  • Kashid Beach :

    It is 50km from Alibag, on the Alibag-Murud highway, also this beach is possibly one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in the region with almost ‘white’ sand. There are many cottages and resorts available ranging from around INR 1500 to INR 20,000. Kashid is the perfect place to relax for urban people. One can find water sports facility and number of small shops for snacks.

  • Mandawa Beach :

    You will find these two beach fronts 10-15 miles north of Alibag on the north coast and easily accessible from Mumbai. Mandwa is a beautiful, untrodden beach. On a clear day one can enjoy a long, breathtaking view across the bay, up to the Gateway of India. Mandwa village too, has a charm of its own — with its beautiful groves of coconut palms.

  • Kihim Beach :

    Kihim has a lot to offer: woods brimming with wild flowers and rare butterflies and birds. Worth visiting is the Kolaba Fort, just a furlong away from the shore. 15 kms from Alibag is Chaul, an historic place with Portuguese ruins, Buddhist Caves, the Hamam Khana, a church, a temple and even a synagogue.

  • Harihareshwar Beach :

    Gentle winds, soft sands and inviting waters make Shriwardhan Bay irresistible to beach lovers. And if one relishes sea-food, there is no dearth of delicacies to sample here. The adventuerers can even take a small boat to the north side of the bay and explore a land where the “Peshwas” or prime ministers of the Maratha Kingdom, Originally resides. The “Peshwas Smarak” is of interest to most people who visit Shriwardhan.The town of Harihareshwar, known for its tranquil and picturesque beach is also landmarked by Kalbhairav – the Shiva temple.

  • Akshi Beach :

    Akshi Beach is located at a distance of around 5 km away from Alibag . It is a white sand beach with numerous pine trees present along the coast. The beach is visited by large number of tourists, as a variety of birds and different flora and fauna can be seen at the beach.

  • Nagaon Beach :

    Nagaon Beach is a beautiful beach situated approximately 7 km away from Alibag, on Alibag-Revdanda route in the Raigad District of Maharashtra. The beach is surrounded by pine trees and is visited by number of tourists. Water sports like boat ride, kayaking facilities are availble over here.
    This site is popular for picnic and weekend as there are numerous cottages, holiday homes, farmhouses and bungalows are availble in nearby area. Arabian Sea tides can be enjoyed by tourists along with betel nuts and coconuts available in abundance along the shores.

By Air

Nearest Airport is Lohegaon Airport, Pune and Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

By Train

The nearest railway stations for most of the tourist places are Mumbai (CST), LTT, Kurla Terminus, Pune Railway station and Panvel Railway station (in Raigad district) for main lines of Indian Railway. The nearest Railway stations of Konkan Railway in Raigad district are Pen, Roha, Veer etc. Tourists can choose nearest local railway station on Konkan Railway as per their convenience.

By Road

All major towns and tourist places in Raigad district are connected by roads through Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses. Raigad District is connected to Mumbai by Sion Panvel Expressway. The Mumbai-Pune expressway and NH4 passes through Panvel, Khalapur and Khopoli. NH 17, which starts at Panvel, traverses till Poladpur.
